Freida McFadden, the brilliant mind behind “The Housemaid” and “The Coworker,” unravels a gripping, twist-laden thriller in “The Inmate by Freida McFadden.”

Brooke Sullivan, a newly minted nurse practitioner at a maximum-security prison, is thrust into a world governed by three crucial rules: respect for all prisoners, safeguarding personal information, and avoiding undue familiarity with inmates. Unbeknownst to her colleagues, Brooke harbors a perilous secret—her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, a notorious prisoner serving a life sentence for heinous murders. Shane, once Brooke’s high school sweetheart and star quarterback, is more than an inmate; he’s a haunting figure from her past.

Freida McFadden explores the complexities of guilt, justice, and personal connection as Brooke grapples with her tumultuous history with Shane. The Inmate is a propulsive, mind-bending thriller that challenges conventional notions of guilt and underscores the consequences of choices, all expertly woven by the seasoned storytelling hand of Freida McFadden.

Review 1:

Thrilling and fast paced with more murders and lost girls were the norm of this author. And the book did not disappoint me on those counts.

The pages just flew as I was sipping on my hot tea. This was completely a breakfast read that gave me my first cardio workout of the day, where I just had to know the truth

Review 3:

I’m just now getting into Freida’s books and I now understand the hype. From the very beginning it draws you in and doesn’t let go till the end. Right when I thought I knew what was going on here comes another twist. After Brook’s parents die in an accident she moved back to her hometown with her 10 year old son.

Wanting to give her son a real home and a fresh start. When she gets a job at the prison where the man she helped convict is serving a life sentence. She starts to question everything including her own memory and intuition. Right when you think you know what’s happening, you don’t. I really enjoyed this.

Review 4:

McFadden did it again, weaving a plot that keeps me thinking I’ve figured it only, only to turn everything upside down again.
I appreciate the ending of this novel along with the epilogue. It’s like I got what I wanted in an ending, but McFadden has a way of keeping it from being a “fairytale ending.” There’s always something to still worry about.

Review 5:

I don’t know how many times I yelled at Brooke in my head. I couldn’t believe how naive she was. I honestly didn’t like Shane from the start. However, I have to be truthful and say I really thought for the good portion of the book that Tim might had been the “bad guy”. Trying to not put too many spoilers on this. Lol So anyways. Great book. Couldn’t put it down. Love love Love Freida McFadden novels!
