The narrative centers around Sheriff Jacob McKinney, who, prompted by a visit from the Federal Bureau of Justice Statistics, unravels the possibility of an overlooked crime. A startling pattern emerges—individuals listed on the Sexual Offender’s Registry who have moved into Dickenson County in the last twenty-five years are dying within ninety days. McKinney embarks on a quest to investigate these older crimes, speaking with locals, exploring historic locations, and contemplating the existence of a serial killer who has eluded capture for decades.

Reader Review:

Review 1 :

Great read! Kept me guessing all the way to the end. As a life long resident of Dickenson county, I truly enjoyed reading and picturing this story actually happening in our area even though it is fiction! Some of the characters “favored” a few local favorites! Highly recommend reading it. I liked it so well I even gifted a few copies!!

Review 2 :

Loved this book. It described the county as it really is. Beautiful, wild, and how families come together for any reason. Death, Birth, or just to celebrate someone coming home or just a family dinner someone is always stopping by about then and you will be feed. They reach out to one another. I love this county. Everybody knows everybody and take time to ask about your health and the health of the family.

The food my Lord, you just need to taste it. The old houses, the old buildings, the mountains, the trees, the Dam, the Breaks Park. We have so much to offer, if anyone wants to visit, you will be amazed. My Cousin that lives in Ky. told his grandfather that we don’t mountain’s the state of VA has mountains.
So come by and see our mountains and visit with the people I think you will be amazed,

Review 5 :

What if all the folks on the sexual offender registry died shortly after moving to your county? That’s what Sheriff Jacob McKinny has to investigate once the FBI comes to call. This quick paced mystery keeps you guessing while weaving multiple characters into a story laced with Appalachian charm …I am a huge fan of the mystery/thriller genre and this book not only tested my detecting skills but made me consider the question “ Is it ever acceptable to take justice into your own hands?” By the book! It’s worth every dime!
